153: Shit Happens

In my line of work, half of the time you try out for a ton of projects. Here´s a few that didn´t work out in the last few months. Yay!

Wiii!

This was a proposal for a rock band´s album art. They went a different way. Oh well.
What did I learn: As much fun as it can be, I´m not a graphic designer.

Eligieron a otra persona.
En fin.

Que aprendí: Aunque sea entrete tratar, no soy diseñador gráfico.

Tryout for a department store´s, soccer inspired, ad campaign. I really wasn´t into doing the gig and the deadline was insanely short, but it offered a ton of exposure and a sizeable amount of cash.
After I sent this in I got so many corrections, I just cut my losses and recommended someone else for the job.
What did I learn:
I dig photo retouching.

This was a tryout pae for a GN about the 33 chilean miners that were trapped underground a couple of years back, and the process to get them all out.
It was fun as hell to do, the writer was really nice and we were told it was all set to go.Then the project got canceled.
What did I learn:
I like using simple/limited color palletes.
I suck at likenesess.

  1. ALL of this is very good work. I’m sure you know that.
The problem is trying to pry your way into a client’s head. The knowledge they do NOT posses is vast, and they only know “what they like when they see it.”
As a graphic designer, your job is to figure out what’s in their head. A nigh-impossible task.
The fact that we sometimes get it is this side of a miracle.
